Many people are unaware that Vermont bicycle law was changed
a few years ago to better reflect a cyclist's status as a
vehicle. Front and rear lights are now required on
all bikes from 1/2-hour after sunset until 1/2-hour before
sunrise. Operating a vehicle without proper lighting is a
moving violation and carries a pretty stiff fine (like 80
bucks or so). We have lots of lighting options for less than
$80.
The Light & Motion VIS500 is a good example of a modern,
USB-rechargeable light. For $52.95 you get 500 lumens of LED
lighting powered up by a Li-ion battery you recharge from
a micro USB port. High beam, low beam, flashing modes, and
the whole thing weighs about the same as the pocketful ofquarters
you might have carried to shovel into a Brattleboro parking
meter.
Good lights are one thing you can't afford to be without,
especially at this time of year!

New traffic
patterns downtown
- Please note that the sidewalk in front of our store has
been widened to improve the pedestrian environment in this
busy intersection. There is no longer parking directly in
front of our Paramount building. There is a loading zone
just past us (in front of A Candle In The Night) where you
can stop to load and unload your bikes. There is no sign
for this, but the parking enforcement people have assured
us they will not ticket a car with flashers on stopping
to load or unload. DO NOT BLOCK THE DRIVEWAY!
- Long term parking for our end of Main Street is either
the High-Grove lot, 1/2 block up High St. from us, or at
the parking garage on Elliot St.

Southern
Vermont's oldest continuously operating bike business
Brattleboro
Bicycle Shop is a year-round, professional sales and service
store right in the middle of Vermont's coolest downtown. We
sell and service most types of bikes and support bikes as
transportation in southern Vermont.
Our mission
is to provide the highest level of person-to-person service
for anyone who loves to ride bikes, especially those who prefer
them to cars. We depend on cars, too, but Brattleboro Bicycle
Shop believes the world will be a better place if the pendulum
swings away from cars and back towards people.

Vermont E-Bike incentives for 2024
|
The State of Vermont, as part of the pressing effort to reduce
fossil fuel usage in transportation, has refined and renewed
its incentive program to help people get out of old cars and
onto e-bikes. The program, created for the summer of 2022,
ran through the money allocated for it in just a couple of
months and lots of lessons were learned. Things have been
tightened up, streamlined, and given increased funding for
2024.
- awards are income-sensitive
- it matters that you will use this to reduce car usenot
just for recreation
- up to $800 for cargo bikes and $400 for regular, single
bikes
- these awards are in addition to the $200 grants available
from Green Mountain Power.
